ABOUT US

A message from the Director

The Network for Oral and Bone Health Research is a network of more than seventy researchers working in the province of Quebec interested in issues related to oral- and bone-related health. The Network is funded principally through a grant from the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé, plus through partnerships with la Fondation de l'Ordre des dentistes du Québec, l'Association de chirurgiens dentistes du Québec, Sogedent Assurances, the Faculties of Dentistry at Université Laval, Université de Montréal and McGill University and the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University.

The mission of the Network is to develop and disseminate new knowledge concerning oral- and bone-related health, and in-so-doing reduce health inequalities and promote the quality of life of the population of Quebec. To work towards this mission, the Network focuses its efforts in three principal directions:

  1. The training, recruitment and retention of outstanding researchers in oral- and bone-related health in Quebec

  2. The development and support of research infrastructure to facilitate the work of the Network's members, thereby making them highly competitive when seeking research grants elsewhere

  3. The dissemination and exchange of knowledge, information and opinions concerning oral- and bone-related health between researchers, health care practitioners, health service decision-makers and the general public. This work is done with the aim of ensuring that:
    1. knowledge created through research is translated into improved health in Quebec; and

    2. the public and health care practitioners and decision-makers inform priority areas for researchers to investigate.

The membership of the Network is made up of researchers working in universities, university hospitals and research institutes throughout Quebec, covering a wide variety of fields related to the Network's mission. These fields of work cover the study of cell biology, oral microbiology, neurosciences, mineralised tissues, biomaterials, dental caries, periodontal diseases, tooth loss and dental prostheses, oral cancer, osteoporosis, and access to health care, among other subjects. Members and their students have access to a variety of programs providing funds to address the aforementioned foci of work. In addition, the Network has created partnerships with a number of organisations and programs to facilitate the work of its members.

The Network has been in existence now for over 10 years, during which time it has made a major contribution to building Quebec's capacity in the field of oral and bone-related health research. We are a dynamic, innovative organisation that reacts to the changing needs of researchers and the health-related priorities of Quebec. We are open to applications for membership from researchers working in fields relevant to the Network's mission and we encourage interaction with members of the wider community to enable us to better work towards that mission.
