ACCESS AND/OR SERVICES MANAGEMENT PROCEDURE
Requests for access to the services are filtered through the Administrative Coordinator and discussed with the appropriate platform coordinator. A list of costs of services is available (http://bone.mcgill.ca/download.php). Requests are filled on a “first come first served basis”. A preferential rate is provided for members of RSBO and other academics.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INFRASTRUCTURE
The mission of the Centre for Bone and Periodontal Research (CBPR) is to facilitate and promote excellence in skeletal and periodontal research that is of international calibre. The CBPR carries out its mission by facilitating research and training and by operating the following technical platforms:
- Platform 1 – Imaging and Biomechanics : This platform provides radiography, bone densitometry, micro-computed tomography and biomechanical testing for small animals.
- Platform 2 – Histology and Histomorphometry : This platform provides paraffin and plastic processing, cryomicrotomy, diamond saw cutting and histomorphometry with computer-assisted analysis of light and fluorescent images.
- Platform 3 – Biochemistry, Sample Banking and Biomarkers : This platform provides immunochemical and radiochemical assays as well as DNA extraction and biobanking.
All platforms provides training and consultation on projects. The studies may be carried out by CBPR coordinators (technical staff) or technicians. Also by graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows of the users who can receive instruction on the use of the technical platforms from the CBPR coordinators.
